Handmade since 1953.
In 1953, Danny Ho and Muey Fong established Tropi-Cal (now Fong Brothers Company), taking the American market by storm with the introduction of unique and nontraditional rattan and wicker furniture. Combining rattan with metal, wood, and plastic to create designs that ranged from clean and structured to more whimsical, Danny Ho’s designs were celebrated for being “simple, light -scaled, and open in feeling.” Though he lacked formal design training, contemporaries recognized his talent. One of his designs currently resides in the permanent collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Danny Ho’s son Miller Yee Fong carried on the family’s design tradition with notable pieces of his own, including the Zen inspired Lotus Chair.
Over a half a century since its founding, Fong Brothers is a third generation family-run business focused on hand-made craftsmanship, tradition, and innovation.
